Music at Dersingham

Virtuosic: Music for Violin and Voice

In 2023, violinist José Matias performed Richard Strauss’ Violin Concert with the English Chamber Orchestra in St Nicholas Chapel, King’s Lynn. This is a chance to hear the work again, but in the format in which it was first heard in 1882 when Benno Walter played the solo part with Strauss accompanying on the piano. Alongside the Strauss, Owain Rowlands will perform a vocal entente cordiale with a performance of gems from the vocal repertoire by British and French composers. The three three talented musicians all hail from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, which, with Music in Country Churches, is a patronage of His Majesty The King. The concert is in aid of the restoration appeal of St Mary the Virgin, Hillington. Musicians: José Matias violin Owain Rowlands baritone Rebecca Selley piano Programme: Richard Strauss (1864–1949) Violin Concerto in D minor Op. 8 (version for violin and piano) Ralph Vaughan Williams (1872–1958) Songs of Travel Meirion Williams (1901–76) Two Songs in Welsh Maurice Ravel (1875–1937) Don Quichotte à Dulcinée

The programme will last approximately 70 minutes and there will be an interval of approximately 20 minutes. Drinks (alcoholic and soft) will be available. The programme may be subject to change. We try to ensure that all concerts are given with the advertised programme. Sometimes, however, it is necessary to make changes to the programme, running order of the concert, and/or performers for reasons outside our control. We will inform you of any changes and ask for your understanding. We also encourage you to check this page for updates.
